Updating to Latest Version

FW Real Estate tutorial for Joomla!

Updating to the Latest Version

Keeping FW Real Estate up to date ensures you have the latest fixes and improvements. Follow the steps below carefully — the order in which you update the main component and its add-ons is critical.

Updating the Main Component

The recommended way to update FW Real Estate is directly from the component admin header. When a new version is available, the header displays your currently installed version number alongside a yellow Install v.X.X.X button. Click that button to open the pre-caution modal before any files are changed.

The modal shows:

  • Your currently installed version
  • The new version number with a link to the Change Log
  • The release type and its impact level (for example, Maintenance release — Impact: Low)

Before the Start update button becomes active, you must tick all three checkboxes:

  1. I read the information and Changelog carefully
  2. I made a backup of all my current data and am ready to proceed
  3. I'm aware that layout overrides can result in fatal errors after this update

Once all three are checked, click Start update to proceed. Never skip this modal — it exists to protect your site from unrecoverable situations.

Always update the main component first, before updating any add-ons. If a plugin or module updates before the main component, it may call new component methods that do not yet exist, causing a 500 error on your site.

Updating Add-ons

Add-on update checks run automatically every time you open the FW Real Estate admin — no manual check is needed. When updates are available, the Addons section in the sidebar displays an orange badge showing the number of pending updates.

Inside the Addons section, each add-on that has an update available shows:

  • The currently installed version number
  • A yellow Update v.X.X.X badge next to the add-on name
  • A yellow Update button on the right

To update all add-ons at once, click the yellow Update All button at the top right of the Addons section.

Always update the main component before updating add-ons. Updating an add-on while running an older version of the main component can break your site.

Updates via Joomla's Extension Manager

Updates can also be applied through System → Update → Extensions, but use this method with caution. Do not use Joomla's automatic update scheduler for FW Real Estate. If a plugin or module updates automatically before the main component, it may call methods that do not yet exist in the installed component version, resulting in a 500 error. If you use this route, always update the main component first, then update the add-ons.

Troubleshooting: Update Fails to Install via Joomla Extension Manager

FW Real Estate updates always appear in System → Update → Extensions regardless of your site's verification status — the update server returns the update XML to all sites. However, the actual file download will fail if your website is not verified, because the download endpoint requires a valid authorized website key.

If the installation fails, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the FW Real Estate component admin and verify your website key in the component settings.
  2. Return to System → Update → Extensions.
  3. Click Purge Cache.
  4. Click Find Updates.
  5. Try installing the update again.
