FW Food Menu tutorial for WordPress

Gutenberg Blocks

FW Food Menu supports the WordPress block editor (Gutenberg) as a visual alternative to shortcodes. Both methods produce identical output — use whichever suits your workflow. Blocks are available in the block inserter under the FW Food Menu category.

Menu Block (fwfm/menu)

The Menu Block displays the full food menu, including all categories and their meals. It is the block equivalent of the [fwfm_menu] shortcode.

Configure the following options in the block sidebar:

  • Category — select which categories to display. Leave unset to show all categories.
  • Layout — choose the display layout for the menu output.

This block is interchangeable with:

[fwfm_menu category_id="..." layout="..."]

Category Block (fwfm/category)

The Category Block displays a category overview, suitable for landing pages or navigation sections. It is the block equivalent of the [fwfm_mod_categories] shortcode.

Configure the following options in the block sidebar:

  • Category — select which categories to include.
  • Text alignment — set text alignment to left, center, or right.
  • Show short description — toggle the category short description on or off.
  • Show meals total — toggle the meal count display on or off.
  • Show menu button — toggle the link button leading to the full menu on or off.

Adding a Block to a Page

  1. Open a page or post in the WordPress block editor.
  2. Click the + inserter icon to open the block library.
  3. Search for FW Food Menu or browse to the FW Food Menu category.
  4. Click the desired block — Menu Block or Category Block — to insert it.
  5. Use the block sidebar to configure display options.
  6. Save or publish the page.

If you prefer working with shortcodes, the [fwfm_menu] and [fwfm_mod_categories] shortcodes remain fully supported alongside the block editor.
